The MAG weekly Blog by Lydia, every friday 1700 hrs. Nr 32 27th January 2023

A MAG is a Modern African Girl, so no subject is taboo. My purpose is to share things which may interest a MAG.

This week's contributors: Lydia, Doré Fasolati, this week's subjects: Fringe linger, I say NO (3), The Fashion World Turmoil .

Fringe linger

Fringe is an ornamental textile trim applied to an edge of a textile item, such as drapery, a flag, or epaulettes. Fringe first came into fashion as an embellishment in the 1920s.

It is part of the flapper look. This look is a popular dress style for women. They say Fringe even originated way back in 3000 B.C. in Mesopotamia (now Iraq).

2022 runways were filled with fringe! From outerwear to accessories and back again, it's no secret that the fashion industry has been obsessed with all things European lately.

Fringe trend is at the forefront of cheerful new drifts to find yourself caught up in — and no, it's not the European trimmings you likely imagine.

What's old is new again, and the Western-inspired fringe trend is making a fabulous return. Fringe is a really fun 2023 fashion trend, but it's not always the easiest to wear! This time around, try bringing fringe back into your wardrobe with a fresh color like chambray.

Fringe comes in all kinds of clothing and accessories such as headbands, purses, gloves, hats, fascinators, kimonos, dresses etc. The more fringes the better.

Instead, they're replaced with color, print and, in if you've been at all aware of the biggest 2023 fashion trends, fringe. Adding fringe to your wardrobe not only does it makes it more bougie, also makes it classy and timeless.

I say NO (3)

And if saying no is simply the result of you not being interested in sex with him (anymore) because he just does his own thing without taking care of you in a nice way? Or even makes it unpleasant? Then you better do something about it quickly or you'll live a very miserable life. Or might start looking for your pleasures elsewhere, which was not why you went into that relationship. Talk, communicate, tell him. That may sound easier than done, but if you say nothing it will not get better, only worse. Many a times people feel shy to raise such subjects, so you may need to handle it carefully. For men it is a very sensitive issue, to be told by his partner that he does not satisfy her. But you need to sort it out, it may be difficult and lengthy, but don’t leave it as it is. Lack of communication, and especially with this subject is very common, and very damaging. Don’t hesitate to contact a marriage counsellor who has more to say than that the two of you should pray. It's your life as well and you want to be happy. Ebo White, the theatre play producer has some realistic books about it which he sells in the forefront of the national Theatre when his group performs. So if shy, take him to a show and together buy the book, it will give you a good opener.

The Fashion World is in Turmoil

The fashion world is in turmoil. LVMH recently invested in a football club, so we expected sporters to dress more fashionable. But British bicycle fashion brand Milltag entered into liquidation a few days ago, after UK's VeloVixen already threw in the towel early January. Meanwhile Louis Vuitton, owned by LVMH, asked Asian artiste Yayoi Kusama to re decorate all its 460 shops in 50 countries, in the hope of getting more Asian customers, because the West is somehow in a recession. And Luxury brand mogul Bernard Arnault, majority owner of the same LVMH is now the richest person in the world, before Mr Gates and Mr Musk. LVMH did 63 Billion $ turnover in 2021. Even prices of second hand designer bags are up 17%. And to top it all, we now have fashion lines for pets, so if tomorrow you see me taking my Poodle ( 1500ghc) or Chihuahua (10,000ghc) out for a walk dressed in a designer fur coat, then you know I have been caught by the same crazy bug.

Not sure if second hand designer outfits for dogs will be a good investment, but neither do I exclude it. After all, it will not be more risky than Ghana Treasury Bills. Ah, and they say Covid is coming back, so watch for the symptoms, they say this latest variant is much more aggressive and contagious than the previous ones, though less deadly.

But be back to the real world, does Louis Vuitton have to dress their shops so extravagant because fashion wise they have little new to offer? Maybe the real revolutionary designers out there are too individualistic to work for these big conglomerates? So look out for that small designer where you pay less than a 10th of the price for something which really is unique, so you have a zero chance to run into someone wearing the same thing. This happened to me once and it was very embarrassing for both of us but we teamed up and got out of it by saying we were two egg twins. Raguel Dey, Zakiya Mahama and Yvonne Couture are some of the local designers I appreciate.
