Palazzos

Today’s fashion is being led by social media influencers, media personalities and  celebrities who decide  what is cool enough to become a trend.

Palazzo, very wide pants/trousers,  create an either casual look for the summer, official without a deconstructed look to make it seem like a travel pants. Unlike other trousers, palazzo pants are highly comfortable, making them suitable to wear on all occasions with spacious and roomier comfort for the wearers.

Palazzo pants are popular trousers also called Patanda in India. Palazzo is an Italian word which means Palatial building. Right! I guess you are now trying to find a similarity between palatial building and patanda.

Well, a palatial building has a huge infrastructure with narrow tops and broader bottoms just like these trousers.

Palazzo pants gained attention in the early ‘70s when often women were banned from wearing trousers at upscale dining places in the West ; in order for the women to protest  against this, they opted for a new type of trousers, that is the Palazzo, thus evading the restaurant's rules, and this made it a popular evening wear at the time.

Unlike Palazzo pants, Culottes pants are cut off at anywhere from above the ankles to below the knees and that solved one of the biggest style riddles. One can wear palazzo pants anywhere. Consider pairing it with the right tops and accessories.

Here are a few tips to help you pull this trend off.

Pair with a T-shirt for a more casual look

Flaunt it with a tank top for a more defined comfort and style

Add a redefine style by pairing it with a blazer and high heels.

Monochrome to achieve a jumpsuit feel by wearing it with the same colour tucked in, for a fluid look.

Orange Oranges

Why are oranges orange? in fact the orange fruit was there before the name for that colour was accepted as orange, about 500 years ago. And now things have turned around, in the West they want oranges to be orange (ours are often yellowish green), so they actually paint them orange, and they all are the exactly the same colour, orange. You think I am kidding? Check it out.

Testing Gold for Purity

How to test gold for purity. This is a whole walahala, normally a certain type of acid is  used but unless you are a professional jeweler or gold dealer you need not bother with this. But one thing can help, gold is about twice as heavy as silver, nickel, zinc or copper, so if it is too light it probably is not gold

Your Body Temperature

Knowing your temperature can be useful. You don't feel well, what is wrong with you? If one has a little fever we watch it for some time, if the fever is very high it is time to seek professional assistance. So what is fever? Normal body temperature for an adult is about 37 degrees Celcius, increased temperature is between 37 and 38, fever is above 38. Above 39 is dangerous, see a doctor. Once you start having fever it is helpful if you measure your temperature every 2 hours or so and write down the result. If you do have to see a doctor your fever rapport will help him to guess what’s wrong with you.

I always have a thermometer at hand, and preferable the old type, without a battery. So the day that I need it I don't get “low battery” in the middle of the night. But I agree that the old type is clumbersome, having to shake it off every time till the temperature shows 36.

And now the big one, where to put that thermometer? The best is “there”, then it is really in your body and will give you the correct temperature, which should be around 37 degrees  Celcius.   But there are different places you can measure, but watch the differences and take them into account. Rectal (anus) and ear are most accurate, armpit, oral and forehead are about 0.3-0.6 lower. So 37.7 in your armpit is in fact 38-38.3 (fever).

I repeat, i am not a doctor, so the above is only a very general guideline

The Basque Culinary World Price of € 100,000 goes to Ghana

The Basque Culinary World Price of € 100,000 goes to Africa, to Ghana, to Fatmata Binta, a Sierra Leone refugee.

This is an international award created to celebrate the way gastronomy can transform our society, by recognizing chefs who have made an impact “beyond the kitchen”. This prize underlines the strength of gastronomy as a driving force for change.

Fatmata Binta, originally from Sierra Leone, aims to share and spread the essence of the Fulani’s culture and cuisine with her initiative “Dine on a mat”, a nomadic restaurant that offers an immersive culinary experience across many countries that demonstrates how the Fulani people eat and interact with food. Thanks to this initiative, over 300 families from 12 communities and from 4 regions of Ghana benefit from its program.

Her Foundation has started to work on four hectares of farm land with the goal of expanding to 500 in the near future: in order to be able to export at least 200 tons of fonio to different countries in Africa and abroad.

I mentioned earlier,  Africa is trending and in vogue, one can say.

Likewise there is our own Ghanaian Chef Selassie Atadika of Midunu, in Tessano, Accra, who has been seriously experimenting with African food combinations with surprising, shocking  and fascinating results, and her dinner parties are a must. Again, here is another personality who is helping to put Africa on the map. Ayeeko for the two of  you.
