Men invented crop tops.!

Over the years, as men's fashion took on a boring turn, most women’s fashion tops were inspired by crop top generational outrage. The crop tops of today are considered fashionable but were originally created by men for men! And were part of men’s fashion since the early 70s when bodybuilders cut off the bottom of their shirts to get around the gym dress codes that prevented men from training without shirts. In the 1940s, crop tops were reinvented as a way to conserve fabric during the war era and eventually became a stylish statement and a staple summer trend paired with a high waisted pants or skirts.

The crop top fad first started in women’s wear in the ‘80s when Legendary Singer Madonna wore it in her debut Lucky Star and then it had a midriff-filled resurgence in the late ‘90s thanks to the Spice Girls, Britney Spears and others. Not forgetting the aerobics craze and as a result of the popularity of the movie Flashdance.

Crop tops are flattering if you wear them correctly and team them with the right things. They draw a person’s eye to the slimmest part of a woman’s body : the center of the rib cage. Keep crop tops for casual events but if you pair them with high waisted trousers or long skirts, it should be fine for most fancy parties.

Imelda Marcos' shoes For those of you who follow world politics you will have learned that recently Ferdinand Marcos Jnr was elected President of the Philippines, an Asian Island country. His father, former Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Snr, was ousted in 1986. One of the big news items at the time was his wife Imelda's 3000 pairs of shoes (later it turned out there were ONLY 1060 pairs, size 8.5) mostly with her name in it, her 888 handbags (and matching 800 dresses), and some other things. There was jewelry as well. Watch this space............

Looking for a partner?

Do you know what you are looking for? First question however, do you know you yourself what you like? You could write down over the next 6 month or so what you like and what you don't like. Have a notebook and pen in your bag and write down as you go. Anything you come across, noise, food, people, music, crowds, shops, animals, space, colours, whatever. That will give you some idea on what sort of person you really are, and you may be surprised. And from there we go to the next step, what do you want from a relationship. To be continued.

Madam Butterfly again.

We went back to Madam Butterfly and tried her fixed multiple dish menu. Quite nice, and the lamb chops were excellent. And we ordered 2 glasses of Stellenbosch red Sauvignon Cabernet wine. It had not turned vinegar, it had not taken the taste of the cork, it was dead simple simply not drinkable. As the reason was indescribable and thus not arguable we decided to take our losses and drink water. Lesson learned: ask to taste or only order 1 glass first.

Today's Ghanaian Artiste Painters.

Many of today's famous painters, like Rembrandt and van Gogh, died poor, whilst today their works easily fetch 50 Million US Dollars and more ! ! And the world is now turning to Africa for new talent. Very original but relatively unknown painters can also be found in Ghana, and their works can still be bought at somehow reasonable prices. 3-400 GHS can buy you a nice beginner's piece. Friend of mine bought an Ato Delaquis 25 years ago for 600 $, today similar is sold for 6000 $, giving a return on investment like the US S&P 500 stock market. Ablade Glover's paintings are already going for up to 35,000 $, lucky are those who bought 25 years ago. And the man did well, he opened Artiste Alliance Gallery (Omanye House), a 3 floors exhibition hall, at Labadi beach road, Accra, where he exhibits his own works and that of his artistic colleagues, and shows some traditional things as well. Do visit it, entrance is free.

Dubious Life around the Rich and Powerful.

Life around the famous and powerful, Indeed it’s a very thrilling experience around these folks. As a young lady, rolling amongst them at their lavishly extravagant parties, one has to be pretty, smart but dumb, intellectually speechless, flirty but obedient etc. “How safe are these parties to attend”. Everything that happens there is neither recorded for evidence on camera, nor spoken about. Most damsels come out of these parties drugged, by alcohol, pills or cocaine. and don’t recall any incident from these events, be it sexual assault or being made to indulge in very nasty and inhumane acts. There’s a crew nicknamed the “Big Boys of East Legon”, mostly involved in money laundering, internet dating scam, gold scam, inheritance scam etc. using the images and videos of the young girls to taunt their prey online. There’s also a cult of young women being paid to look for the next victim amongst mainly the tertiary and secondary institutions. Watch this pace in my next blog.
