The MAG weekly Blog by Lydia, every Friday 1700 hrs. Nr 42 7th April 2023

A MAG is a Modern African Girl, so no subject is taboo. My purpose is to share things which may interest a MAG.

This week's contributors: Lydia, Doré Fasolati, this week's subjects: : Slim is the new fashion, 2 Million dollar handbags, Menstruation leave comes true.

Slim is the new fashion Wondering why celebrities with botched bodies are dissolving their cullulite;? That’s because slim is the new trend. Weight loss has been an issue right from the time celebrities and the media portrayed Slim to be the beauty standard. It is only until recently that the media and certain personalities are empowering people to embrace their natural selves and not conform to the so-called beauty standards the entertainment industry portrays. Aside from not conforming to these ridiculous stereotypes and standards, one must believe and see the good in living healthy and being slim, since being overweight is rampant and lots of people are finding it difficult to lose kilos. The likes of Hollywood stars are undergoing reduction surgeries and are taking an unprescribed drug for diabetic patients to lose weight and become slim. Prevention is better than cure. One must not take unprescribed medications to lose weight, rather go through the process of cutting down on carbs, and eating less processed foods and more organic foods.

Work out more, know your body and what work-out works for you. After embrace your natural body. Your body deserves love and care too. You will feel great both inside out and will be thankful you did lose those kilos.

2 Million dollar handbags. I recently stumbled upon an article about a 2 million Dollar handbag, and a bit of net searching shows there is better than that. Mouawad leads the pack with the 1001 Nights Diamond Purse at $3.8 Million,

Hermes follows with the Hermes Kelly Rose Gold at $2 Million, the Hermes Birkin Bag by Ginza Tanaka, and the Hermes Chaine’d Ancre Bag at $1.4 Million, then we drop down to $400,000 for the Lana Marks Cleopatra Clutch, and, better still, the Niloticus Crocodile Himalaya Birkin goes for the attractive price of not even $ 400, 000, i.e. only $379,000. and so on and so on. Crazy? 2 million Dollars for someone who has 2 billion is the same as 2 dollars for someone who has $ 2000$, so if you recently spent 20 $ on a handbag maybe you were living above your means? It's all relevant, and somehow I feel sorry for those who are buying those bags, I wonder if they get the same amount of pleasure and excitement out of it as I get from buying a $ 30 or $ 40 handbag, (330- 440GHS), the searching, the comparing, the changing of mind, and finally, at the end of the day, after a strenuous search, boom, I decide and buy. (Sometimes then that bag has meanwhile been sold, reason for days lasting depression and spending the same amount of money on chocolate and cheesecake). Jealousy? Maybe. But there's a whole load of different stories behind all that.? Did you see the film “The devil wears Prada” and the scene with the blue sweater? If you haven't and if you're interested in fashion, try to see it. That scene is on YouTube as well. It explains the money generating a blue sweater, or a handbag does. Just to mention a few? The tax man, of course, all the way, the salaries paid to the workers, to the shop attendants, to the ones who built the shop, the advertising agencies, the diamond producers and other material suppliers.. this blog is too short to mention all those sectors of the economy benefitting from the sale of one of these bags. So keep the money rolling, I would say.

Menstruation leave comes true. A Paris district, Saint-Ouen, has become the first French municipality to grant paid medical leave to female staff suffering from period pain, hoping to “break a taboo” on the subject and inspire similar moves at the national level. The scheme allows the district's 1,200 women employees to take up to two days off, each month, subject to a doctor’s approval, without loss of salary. It comes a month after Spain’s government passed ground breaking legislation granting similar rights to women nationwide, in a first for a European country. Saint-Ouen’s mayor Karim Bouamrane first announced the move on March 8, to coincide with International Women’s Day, saying he hoped to inspire French legislators to follow suit. “We must put an end to this suffering in silence – and indeed this denial of suffering, up to one in every two women experiences painful and sometimes incapacitating periods. The aim is to break a taboo on the subject so that women who suffer from painful periods no longer feel stigmatised,” The new rules in Saint-Ouen will allow women to choose between taking time off or working from home. Advocates of paid menstrual leave, say it will foster debate on the subject and help raise awareness of illnesses such as endometriosis, a debilitating disease that causes chronically painful periods and, in some cases, infertility.
