Lydia's Weekly Lifestyle blog is for today's African girl, so no subject is taboo. My purpose is to share things that may interest today's African girl.

Tima Abid's Cultural Fusion of Traditional Royalty into futuristic avant-garde creations. Traditional Motifs: Abid's collection cleverly incorporated traditional Saudi motifs and patterns, reinterpreting them through a modern lens. This fusion highlighted the richness of heritage while appealing to contemporary fashion sensibilities. Accessories: The accessories in the collection were equally avant-garde, featuring statement jewelry and headpieces that complemented the outfits. Materials such as leather, metal, and intricate beadwork created striking contrasts with the clothing. The overarching theme of the collection embraced a dialogue between the past and the future, inviting viewers to reconsider established norms of dress within Saudi culture. Abid's work in this collection aimed to challenge perceptions of modesty and femininity by redefining elegance through an avant-garde approach. Tima Abid’s collection garnered significant attention during the fashion week, praised for its originality and craftsmanship. It not only showcased her design talent but also positioned her as a key player in the Saudi fashion narrative, highlighting the Kingdom's commitment to innovation in fashion while respecting its cultural roots. In summary, Tima Abid's avant-garde aesthetics collection in Saudi Arabia expertly blends traditional cultural elements with contemporary artistic expressions, showcasing a vibrant dialogue between heritage and modernity that challenges perceptions and invites viewers to explore new artistic horizons.
Longest Catwalk: Last week we talked about the longest catwalk, which was in Australia, but now it is rather in Nigeria, with the longest catwalk Guinness record by a Nigerian girl Olalade Ayelabola. She is a student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Nigeria. Olalade Ayelabola has set a new Guinness World record for the longest distance walked by a model after completing a 130.62km catwalk. That would mean she walked about 26 hours, not sure if that was non-stop. And I can’t find any pictures of her shoes so I guess she couldn't do it on heels.
Le Monde Sexual Insights: The leading French newspaper Le Monde recently published a 5-year study of 30,000 Frenchmen and women between the ages of 18 and 80. There are some surprises there for my next week's blog.
How to have healthy guts for optimal mental performance (part 2): I mentioned fibre-rich food to create healthy regular digestion. And how do you build up a healthy gut population? The guts are full of bacteria of different types, and all have their role to play in your digestion, they break down the food you ate into smaller parts or even modify it so your guts can absorb these small parts and your body can now do its work like creating energy for our movements and brain functioning, building muscles for our strength, building our bones so we can stand, repairing damaged cells, what not. My best advice is to eat as varied as possible, don't eat the same staple like rice or yam every day, and don't eat the same meat, eggs, veggies, or fruits. A bit of this and a bit of that, your intestines will be happy with the variety, and your body will be able to pick all the minerals and vitamins you need, without any supplements mentioned. I once asked a doctor for the best supplement, and he just shook his head. Only for elderly people sometimes selenium and a few others are helpful, for the younger generation a varied diet does the trick. To be continued.
Chemical Exposure. A recent study by the scientific American journal “Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology” found 3601 undesirable chemicals in people's bodies. Origin? Packaging, and kitchen utensils. The plastic bag used in the shop to present your rice will leave a few traces of plastic in your rice, and so will the ink of the printing “healthy premium quality rice”. The pizza box has a bottom that somehow resists the pizza's fat. Same thing for all your takeaway food. Luckily in the case of the takeaway food the contact is short, but your plastic yogurt pot or pre-packed meat may have been standing there for weeks. So, in general your best bet is to buy fresh things and wrap them in paper, or at least things packed in glass, though the cover and its linings are not harmless either. And all “plastic” kitchen utensils are suspect, go for wood or stainless steel. And your nonstick frying pan is also not harmless. Here again, try to go for stainless steel or plain pressed or cast iron. Aluminium easily reacts with food and too much aluminium in your body is suspected to play a role in the development of Alzheimer's. Chopping boards are also suspect unless they are made out of 1 piece of wood and not glued bamboo or plastic. Be careful with the microwave; only glass or porcelain, even though the plastic packaging may seem to withstand the heat.
