Say it with style, Nancy! Self-proclaimed stylist Nancy Adobea Anane, popularly known as Ms Nancy (from the Confession show on TV3), calls herself a style coach. She has written a little book about styling that is worth reading. She has realized that many of you are bush and would put yourself to shame during dinner or tea, and she now offers dining and tea etiquette lessons for 3,000 GHC. You'll learn how to hold a fork and a knife, and not to eat your chicken bones. You'll also learn to keep your elbows off the table, chew with your mouth closed, and wait until everyone is served before beginning to eat. Urhh, you wouldn’t want to upset your future partner or boss? She'll also teach you how to eat from outside to inside (use the outside cutlery for course 1, next one for course 2, etc) and how to hold your glass. She's been posting how not to do that. I guess she'll teach you a lot more, even with wine and champagne a decent meal in a top restaurant doesn’t cost anywhere near that amount. Probably the no burping will also come in, as well as not getting drunk during a dinner and not stowing food in your handbag. Or taking off your shoes, chewing too fast, licking your fingers or dropping food onto the floor. And she'll tell you that your natural hair is “not done”, that it should be braided, like hers. On many occasions I've been short of money myself, but I always solved my problems with style. You kidding?

Should he pay the bills? Some of you make the mistake of trying to get a boyfriend, and later husband, just to pay for your fancies like dresses, nails, braids, maybe a car and some additional money on top. It is indeed not unusual for a husband to bring in all the money; in return, the wife keeps the house and the kids in order. However, if you team up with someone solely because they bring the money, they will likely treat you like their property as well, after all, they are paying for it. And in our society, where already traditionally the woman has to obey the man, he will now do what he wants (with you), and feel free to take side chicks, for which he will pay as well. So you'll have money, but you'll just be a chick, don’t even be sure that you are not one of his side chicks, married or not. So better to have your own income as well so that he knows he does not own you, The Times They Are a-Changin' (Bob Dylan 1963).

Sushi at the Patita Thai Restaurant and Bar (Peter Ala Adjetey Ave, Labone, Accra). Fish sushis were the purpose of our visit (there is also beef and vegetable sushi). Patita is normally of good quality at reasonable prices. But we were told they don’t do sushi anymore. The reason was that too few people were ordering it, and as the sushi fish needs to be very fresh, it is absolutely not worth the trouble and the money if you can't guarantee that. Ayeeko, better no fish sushi than old fish sushi. So we had Thai omelet + chicken, and Thai beef spring rolls. Service was attentive, as usual, and normally you can park right there or very near.
