Lydia's Weekly Lifestyle blog is for today's African girl, so no subject is taboo. My purpose is to share things that may interest today's African girl.
This week's contributors: Lydia, Pépé Pépinière, Titi. This week's subjects: Colourful Corporate, Worms, The richest actors, MJ Grands Hotel, Bandex Tai, Oven and Kitchen Chinese Restaurant East, and Kula Bistro
Colourful Corporate: There was a time when corporate fashion meant grayscale suits, beige blouses, and the occasional navy blue dress if you were feeling daring. But those days are behind us. A bold, refreshing wave is sweeping through office wardrobes, and it’s bringing colour — lots of it.
Here's a fashion post on Colourful Corporate Trends — engaging, stylish, and suitable for a fashion-savvy audience interested in workplace style:
Accessories That Pop: If you’re not ready to commit to a full-on colour moment, try accessorising with intention:
A crimson handbag with a beige pantsuit.
A turquoise statement necklace with a classic white shirt.
Colourful loafers or heels with a tailored black ensemble.
Small touches can transform an outfit — and often spark conversation.
Fabrics That Compliment Colour
Not all fabrics wear colour equally. Here's what to look for:
Silk & Satin: Enhance the richness of jewel tones.
Linen: Gives earthy colours a breathable, natural look.
Wool & Tweed: Perfect for deeper, colder hues.
Cotton & Poplin: Crisp and clean, great for brights and pastels alike.
How to Stay Professional While Going Bold: Worried about crossing the line between creative and chaotic? Here are a few rules of thumb:
Stick to 2–3 colours per outfit. Let one be the dominant shade.
Balance with neutrals. Pair that coral blazer with a white blouse and taupe pants.
Pay attention to cut and fit. A brightly coloured outfit still needs structure.
Understand your office culture. Tech startup? Go wild. Law firm? Try coloured accessories or toned-down pastels.
The Bottom Line: Colour in corporate wear isn’t just a trend — it’s a movement. It’s about breaking outdated norms and allowing personal style to coexist with professionalism. Whether you’re an HR exec in a raspberry pantsuit or a software engineer in a pistachio-green shirt, colour gives your look personality, confidence, and edge.
So the next time you’re reaching for that black blazer — ask yourself: What would magenta do?
Style Tip of the Week: Pair a bright blazer with neutral high-waist trousers for a clean, contemporary look that turns heads for the right reasons.

Worms. brrr. Yes, brrr, and about 40 % of below 5 year old's have worms, similar figures are for school going children, though it is more in the rural areas than in the cities. There are different worms like hookworm, pinworm roundworm and whipworm so if you buy dewormer get yourself well informed by the pharmacist. Surprisingly the cheaper treatments might be the best and cover all. Symptoms can be as varied as abdominal pain, anaemia-iron-deficiency (due to blood loss), bloody diarrhea or rectal prolapse (in severe cases), diarrhea or constipation, coughing or wheezing, itching or discomfort around the anus or vagina, nausea and vomiting, pale skin, restless sleep or difficulty sleeping, shortness of breath, skin rashes or itching, teeth grinding or irritability, visible worms in stool or around the anus, weight loss or poor weight gain and loss of appetite.
Recognize something? But the most important symptom is that the child will not be healthy and will not do well in school. So regular dewormers is not a waste of money but rather a protection of your child and it's future. 20 to 25 GHS per dewormer every 3 months or so should be affordable.
The richest actors. Guess who? from nr 1 to number 5 they are Arnold Schwarzenegger 1.5 bn $, Dwayne Johnson, 1.2 bn $, Tom cruise 890 m$, Shah Rukh Khan 875 m and George Clooney 740 m.
How does that compare with other superstars? I am not talking about politicians like Trump or Putin, but football players? Faik Bolkaiah 20 bn$, Cristiano Ronaldo 800 m$, Lionel Messi 650 m $, David Beckham 450 M $ and Neymar 350 m $.
So film is better than football, and Faik Bolkaiah has his money from heritage, not football, he's the nephew of the sultan of Brunei. And did they earn all that money by acting or playing soccer? No, these people often already had money from earlier investments like real estate or shares in profitable companies, and money makes money, that is if you are smart and know how to expand it.
MJ Grands Hotel No. 40 Abotsi street, East Legon, Accra. My Sunday morning friend's return trip to Europe was cancelled, they could not close the door to the luggage compartment of the plane, so no flight. Airlines then either find alternative flights with other airlines or they put you in a hotel, with reasonable food paid for, waiting for the next day's flight, and that happened in my friend's case, at the MJ Grands Hotel.
The room was comfortable but the salad lunch in the hotel's restaurant was a disappointment, stale dry Lebanese bread with some withered salad leaves on it and half gallon of cheap industrial mayonnaise as a dressing. That's a classic, hotels are for sleeping and rarely do you find food there worth talking about. The buffets in the bigger Accra hotels are exceptions, especially the Sunday buffets can be nice. So I decided to pick my friend in the evening, and looking at google maps there were plenty opportunities for a bite in the neighborhood. We first had some drinks at their bar area near the pool, prices are reasonable and it is quite a secluded spot if you ever need one.
Bandex Tai had a 4.3 rating and was just around the corner. But despite some searching we could not find it, and when I phoned I eventually got someone to tell me that they were closed. Up to the next one.
Oven and Kitchen Chinese Restaurant East had a 4.1 rating and was also not far. And was also closed. I decided not to call. Google maps for you.
Kula Bistro (Ange Hill street, East Legon, Accra), also not far, had 4.1 rating. They were open. Originally a bistro (bistrot) is a small restaurant that serves moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting. Steak frites, tomato salad, onion soup and bean with meat stew are some of the classics. There is also an anecdote that when the Russians entered Paris in 1814 after defeating Napoleon they would demand quick (bystro in Russian) food.
Kula Bistro’s peri peri goat meat at 150 GHS was excellent. They didn’t have the samosas but recommended Chinese style vegetable spring rolls at 75 GHS which were very bad. Their vegetable wrap at 85GHS was a bit ok. But their house vodka went for 80 GHS a shot. They also sell the typical African dishes like jollof rice, braised rice (angwamo) and chicken kebab. The place looks attractive, service is good, the music is that undefined noise which is fashionable amongst gen Z, who were present in their numbers busy taking selfies and trying to become food photographers. I'd come back for the goat peri peri and for the fun.
